Silchar is a city in the north eastern part of India in the state of Assam. The city is the economic gateway to the state of Mizoram and part of Manipur. The town is commercially very important and is the second largest city in the state of Assam. The city over the past few years has constantly witnessed a huge influx of people from other smaller places as the city is developing at a very fast pace in the areas of education, medical facilities and real estate. Due to the flourishing economy many people are settling in the city as the city has many job opportunities to offer to them. Silchar has some of the best educational institutes in the North Eastern part of the country.
NIT Silchar is one of the oldest engineering colleges in the area. The city also has a medical college, a polytechnic Institute, B.Ed colleges, two Law colleges, one Industrial Training Institute and a non Formal Technical Institute BOSCOTECH. The city also has its own university called the Assam University. All these colleges offer many courses and employ many educated people and support staff thus creating many job opportunities. Silchar also has many reputed schools like Don Bosco School, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, and many other private and public schools.
The city also is home to some of the best colleges in the state like Aryan Junior College, Guru Charan College and many others. All these also create many job opportunities for the people of the city and also for those coming from the nearby areas. In the past few year Silchar has become an important educational hub for the disturbed north eastern part of the country. People from different parts come here for the education of their children. Students from the city are doing very well in all spheres. The people of Silchar are mostly rice-eating people and majority of the people depend on farming and tea cultivation. The region has nearly 125 Tea gardens and most of them produce the best tea in the country. Agriculture is the most important sector of the economy of Silchar and the main crops grown here are tea, oil and natural gas, bamboo, cane and rice.
All these contribute in a major way to the economy of Silchar and generating revenue and also employ a considerable part of the population. Silchar is a very important town in Assam with agriculture and education as the most important sectors. The other sectors are developing also creating many job opportunities for the people of the city besides the opportunities that exist in agriculture and education.
