Jamnagar is a city in the western part of India in the state of Gujarat in India.
Jamnagar is popularly known as the Oil City as it has the world?s biggest refinery
complex of Reliance Industries and another refinery of Essar Oil. The Jamnagar refinery
is owned by Reliance Industries and is the largest Greenfield refinery in the world.
It has a capacity of over 1 million barrels per day. The refinery contributes to
about 5% of the world?s capacity.
With the reliance refinery and also the Essar oil refinery which when compared to
Reliance is small, but together have employment opportunities for thousands of people.
Apart from the work at the refinery there is work for support staff and opportunities
in other departments of the refineries. As a result there are many job opportunities
for many people. Jamnagar houses more than 5,000large scale and 10,000 small scale
units manufacturing items made of brass. Reports suggest that on a daily basis about
200 tons of brass goods are produced.
The brass industry operates at a very large scale and employs many people. Many
skilled artisans are employed to produce brass items and many others are also employed
to facilitate the sales and distribution of the production. The brass items produced
here are also exported to many parts of the world and this function also gives employment
opportunities to many. Jamnagar is very famous for its Bandhini saris and dresses
and Kajal. The Bandhini fabric is very popular all over the world. The making of
the fabric and its subsequent selling employs a large number of people.
The city of Jamnagar has many places of tourist attractions like Darbargadh Palace,
Lakhota Fort, Willingdon Crescent, Pratap Vilas Palace and many temples. The city
also has many beautiful parks and gardens apart from marine sanctuaries and marine
national park. All these tourist places attract many tourists every year. Tourism
brings in a lot of revenue for the city.
There are many hotels and restaurants to cater to the needs of the tourists. All
the hotels are entrepreneurial ventures and employ many people. Multiplexes and
