Ajmer is a district in the state of Rajasthan. Ajmer is a beautiful city surrounded
by the Aravali Mountains. In 2001 Ajmer had a population of about 500,000. The economy
of Ajmer is primarily tourism and agricultural based. The main crops that are grown in the area of Ajmer are wheat, barley, pulses sugarcane and oilseeds. Major part
of the population is engaged in agriculture. Apart from growing the crops there
lies immense opportunity in selling the produce at viable rates.
Ajmer is famous worldwide for holy places like the Khwaja Moinudeen Chistie Dargah
and the Pushkar shrine. These holy places attract millions of people every year.
As a result of a large tourism base a huge population thrives on tourism and related
activities. To cater to the needs of the visitors there are many hotels in the city
and there is a scope to open more as the influx of people is increasing every year.

world. Apart from the holy places there are many other tourist attractions in the
city. The tourism industry and the visit of millions of tourists every year create
many job opportunities for the local people of the city of Ajmer. Many people in
Ajmer earn their living by selling different things during the Urs festival when
millions of people visit the city.
Certain population works throughout the year and makes beautiful handicrafts, rugs,
block printed cloths, jewellery etc and sell it during the carnival time. There
lies immense scope for people to market these items across the country and once
production is stabilized it can be exported broad also. Once these goods are sold
in the right manner it will be very profitable for these local artisans. Ajmer is
also famous for its leather made and embroidered footwear called mojaris and scented
natural oils. With proper channelizing and marketing these goods can also bring
in money for the producer and the marketer. Industries of sandstone and marble are
vey dominant in Ajmer. Many seek employment in these industries.
Marble flooring and other items are sent across the country from here and thus,
it?s a source of living for many and with the rise in business has scope for more
people to join. Thus, we see that in Ajmer people thrive on tourism and agriculture
but with proper guidance and support they can get many opportunities in business
related to their cottage industries.
